Forestry workers sporting fake injuries stumbled out of Bodalla State Forest pretending to be badly hurt, requiring the attention and first aid training of their colleagues.
About 50 Forestry Corporation of NSW firefighters from Narooma, Batemans Bay and Eden converged on Bodalla State Forest on Thursday for the pre-season fire preparation training.
Forestry Corporation's Batemans Bay-based forest protection manager Julian Armstrong said the training day was a crucial component of fire season preparation.
“Many Forestry Corporation staff are also trained and experienced firefighters, so this training day will be an important skills refresher that will ensure our staff are fit and ready to be deployed to the fire front in a fire emergency,” Mr Armstrong said.
“We’ll be putting our firefighters through their paces in a series of scenarios and simulations ranging from first aid incidents to a wildfire to ensure our staff are fully prepared to protect the region’s State forests and surrounding communities this fire season.
“We’ve just finished our winter burning season where we completed a number of strategic hazard reduction burns to protect local communities, so we are in a good position with summer approaching, and this fire day will ensure our staff are trained, fit and ready for the upcoming fire season.”
Forestry Corporation is responsible for more than two million hectares of native and plantation forests and has been involved in firefighting in NSW for 100 years.
