Day one of local bowler Ricky Holt’s quest to play a game of bowls at 50 clubs throughout NSW on 50 consecutive days was completed with 82 men and lady bowlers attending an open triples day at Club Sapphire Merimbula on Saturday.

With bowlers from a number of local clubs participating, all fourteen available rinks were full across the Merimbula greens.
The day commenced with Melbourne based comedian Tom Siegert doing a twenty minute stand up routine to a room that covered a wide demographic of age groups.
Tom who flew in from Melbourne donated his time to support the charity function and had the room full of bowlers in stitches before a bowl was even rolled.
With music playing across the greens and extra activities included in the day, the 82 bowlers in attendance had a fantastic afternoon.
At the completion of the game the bowlers retired to the club house where hot finger food was served along with another appearance by Tom Siegert who during his routine took the time to auction some sporting memorabilia items for the cause.
Throughout the day a raffle was run where a new set of Drakes Pride bowls valued at $650 were won by local identity and regular supporter of Ricky’s charity initiatives, Leanne Swingler.
At the completion of the day the final figure raised exceeded $4,000. With the bowls sections donating $800 from the days green fees along with another $160 raised by the Merimbula ladies section, the participants on hand showed what great generosity there is in the local bowls community by purchasing approximately $3,000 in raffle tickets and memorabilia items.
Day two
Day two of Ricky Holt’s charity bid was another smashing success with Tathra Beach bowling club hosting 40 keen local bowlers in a social fours game.
The days festivities again commenced with Melbourne based comedian Tom Siegert who set the mood for an enjoyable afternoon.
Sixteen ends of fours was contested on Tathra’s green one which despite challenging weather was enjoyed by all 40 competitors.
At the completion of the game players retired to the club house where raffles were conducted along with an auction for some sports memorabilia.
The Tathra Beach bowls club showed great generosity on the day donating half of the income raised from their bistro along with all the green fees, all tolled the club handed Ricky in excess of $2,000 bringing his tally up over $6,000 for the first two days of his 50 day quest.
