Organisers said it was the most amazing and memorable finals series yet. 

The Kirk’s Crew team had dominated the season and advanced through the semi-finals despite hosting three substitutes due to illness and injury. 

Team Japan took took on Tim’s Team in the semis. 

The teams finished on the same game result, same rubbers and the exact same point-score! Both teams agreed to play one more game for the two closest matches which again resulted in a 1-1 draw, but Tim’s team won out on points.

With the finalists drawn, the grand final started as officials expected. 

Helen Comerferd-Parker went down 1-3 to Gus Warnock, but the results quickly shifted with Calvin Yong and Richard Watkins picking up 3-0 wins over Brook Sykes and Rob Morton respectively. 

On court two, Kirk’s Crew surged further ahead with Maddie Gordon scoring a 3-0 win, while substitute Geoff Bartlett battled out a solid 3-2 win over Mitch Nadin for a 13-5 lead. 

Lewis Nadin turned the night on its head, knocking off Jeremy Fernando 3-0 and Ben Claxton scored a 3-0 win over Stephen Salt to keep scores tight at 13-11. 

Team captains Kirk and Tim headed onto the court with Kirk needing just two games to seal the match. 

However, Tim took the first games handily 17-16 and the second 15-7 before Kirk clawed a game back. 

The fourth match was some of the best squash seen on the Merimbula courts with Tim collecting the game and levelling the scores 14-14. 

Four rubbers, 14 games apiece so it came down to a points count and unbelievably it was Tim’s team stealing away the prermiership 358 to 357. 

Club president Matt Fanning said the spring competition would start on September 12 and officials are expecting strong numbers as old players return. 

Ahead of that, the Club looks forward to its grading and social evenings on Wednesday and September 7 from 6pm. 

New and returning players are welcome.
