“Part of the course bears a striking resemblance to the great classical seaside courses of Britain, while other parts of the course take in the almost unbelievable beauty of the Australian forest area.”

Member John J Francis wrote, “Director Arthur Kaine was largely instrumental in the early development and success of the club. The clubhouse and first nine holes were opened  on June 5, 1982, a liquor licence was granted and the clubhouse opened on April 26, 1982. Arthur Kaine retired as president and Ted Smith (retired army brigadier) took over the position.

The official opening of the Tura Beach Country Club 18 hole golf course took place on February 25 in 1984. In designing and building Tura Beach, Mike Wolveridge and Peter set out to create a course that means all things to all manner of golfers.

Lionel Barnett (president NSWGA) cut the ribbon and a select field of 36 players including state champions played – TBCC Pro Scott Tasker won with 1 under 72 with a Pro purse of $250.

The first bowling green was built with club members’ voluntary labour, and officially opened on August 19, 1984.

Known as “the club with the million dollar views”, the Seaview Bistro overlooks the Pacific Ocean with exhilarating views.

The championship standard course, measuring 6018 metres, boasts a par of 73 against an Australian course rating of 72. The course itself is tough with large greens, some tiered, and stiff winds, a crucial factor on any seaside course, add to the difficulty.

The first nine holes resemble the classic “links” style courses while the back nine alters character to wind its way through undulating terrain and tree-lined fairways.

The Tura Beach Country Club, located 5kms north of Merimbula along Sapphire Coast Drive, also has two bowling greens and two tennis courts.
