Fifteen-year-old Jessica Palacios, 16-year-old Carlie Stolzenhyein, 17-year-old Rian Reynolds and 12-year-old Ruby Bichard are all vying for the top prize of $1000, which was last year won by fellow Lumen Christi student Jared Tucker.
Jessica and Carlie’s film, City Animals was actually inspired by a project in their Year 10 film class.
“I want to get into film making when I finish school so it is great that I can learn the basics while still at school,” Carlie said.
Making movies is nothing new for Year 12 students Rian Reyonds who has his own Youtube channel with more than 90 videos including a number of music videos.
Rian also plans to go into the film industry and is hoping to move to Sydney next year to study a bachelor of music and sound engineer. He has recently bought his own camera which he used to record his film Bigger Things, a story about three guys finishing their HSC.
“My friends and I are hoping to start up our own production company,” he said.
Although not studying film making at Lumen, Rian gained an insight into the industry after being an extra in a short film shot in Sydney over summer.
“Film-making is definitely something people of my generation should be exposed to, I always thought it was just a hobby but now I know there are a lot of jobs out there for people who can create films.”
The winners of YOOFtube will be announced on September 12.
