Andrew Bell of McKay’s Oysters, who found the dead fish on an oyster bag, said he had never seen a fish like this, nor had John McKay who has been farming oysters in Merimbula for more than 40 years.
The two men have contacted Fisheries and the Merimbula Aquarium to see if anyone local can identify the creature.
At the Merimbula News Weekly, our expert staff have done a bit of investigating and we believe the fish could be a Bluespotted Cornetfish but as we are not marine scientists we would love to hear from anyone who can shed any light on the matter.
