The Diggers went down to the competition leaders 15-10-100 to 6-4-40, but will aim to kick a goal for breast cancer research with a fundraiser round against the Pambula Panthers..
Senior coach Ian Radford said the club had a key focus on being part of, and supporting, the local community this year with a special pink round a natural fit for club members.
“This is a cause that means a lot to our footballers and our club; unfortunately, there has been quite a lot of people in the club who have been affected by breast cancer and we want to do our part to end that cycle,” Radford said.
GJ Gardner Homes in Pambula has stepped up to donate a series of special pink jerseys for the day that will be auctioned off after the senior game.
All money raised will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
“It’s a real one-of-a-kind opportunity to nab one of these player jerseys and support a great cause.”
There will be the usual footy fare available at the bar and canteen, but a troop of volunteers will also be offering up some pink treats as well as a jumping castle for the kids on the day.
Radford said he had been lucky enough to get in touch with football maker Sherrin, who are donating a pink ball.
The club is asking for a gold coin donation on the day and promising a great club contest for those in attendance.
The Diggers will be out for redemption after their bruising defeat to the Sea Eagles.
The hosts were well in contention early, running just eight points behind despite facing a stiff headwind.
Plenty of work was being done in the centre with great displays of finesse and strength by Tom Burch and Daniel Worden.
Billy Stubbs also showed speed and accuracy alongside Noah Martyn as the Diggers out-paced the Sea Eagles in the opening quarter.
The Diggers continued to challenge plays with Jack Burch flying high in the ruck, while Danny Adams was hitting the scoreboard, kicking three majors.
However, the taxing contest began to take its toll with the Diggers fronting up against some bigger bodies in the Sea Eagles line-up and the visitors started to take control.
The third quarter saw the Diggers push against the flow of play for about 15 minutes, but it appeared to burn off the fuel left in the tank with the Eagles running away with the game in the final quarter.
Play on Saturday will be at Berrambool Oval with five games running from 9.30am.
Seniors at 2.30pm.
