The Sapphire Coast Eagles is a netball team made up of people with a disability, giving them the opportunity to learn the skills of the game.
Members thanked coach and team coordinator Karen Taylor, who created the initiative at the start of the year. Taylor has welcomed the involvement of the Disability Trust who helped to promote and manage the team, while five volunteers give up their time each week to help make training a success for the team.
The Eagles are now gearing up for their very first netball carnival to be held in Wollongong on July 30.
A number of local businesses have jumped on board with the initiative with Sapphire Coast Buslines providing a coach for the team to travel in. Taylor said it was the first team sport available for people with a disability on the Far South Coast and had great support.
