Red Nose Day – this Friday, June 24 – has moved well beyond a soft red clown nose available once a year (and who remembers the brief love affair of larger plastic noses for cars?!)
Over the years Sids for Kids has moved towards a variety of merchandise such as wrist bands, badges and pens. It’s rare to see anyone wearing an actual red nose these days.
The same goes for the yellow merchandise of Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day – although the actual flowers do occasionally make an appearance in time for the annual appeal.
We’re also asked year after year to dig deep for the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, Jeans for Genes, World’s Greatest Shave, Movember...the list goes on.
All are vital and worthy causes to give money to, but all are continually evolving to keep the interest in their respective appeals going year after year.
Cue the arrival on stage of Stars of the Bega Valley Dance for Cancer!
This fast-approaching inaugural event is a wonderful and fresh take on how the Cancer Council can raise funds in our region.
Using a “Dacing With the Stars” approach, the gala night pairs “celebrities” of the Bega Valley with our region’s talented dancers to create what’s bound to be a night of entertainment (and probably laughs), all for a great cause.
Fundraising is both in the form of pledges to each celebrity as well as on the night itself through ticket sales to the three-course meal and dance spectacular.
Similar events held in Wollongong and Nowra in recent weeks have proven fantastic nights out for those dancing as well as spectators – and also top money-spinners for the Cancer Council.
Can the Bega Valley’s be the same when it takes to the Club Sapphire dance floor on Friday, July 1?
Tickets are available at reception for $75 a head, tables of 10 available.
And make sure to pledge a few dollars towards your humble editor – he needs all the help he can get!
