The Merimbula Diggers are holding equal second place on the Sapphire Coast AFL ladder after a straight-forward win over Narooma on Saturday.

The Diggers trumped the Lions in the senior grade 14-12-96 to 6-9-45 and also knocked over a 40-point win in the development grade contest.
The senior Diggers are boasting a better for and against than the Panthers as both clubs sit level on 20 competition points.
Officials were expecting a good contest when the Merimbula outfit met the fourth-placed Narooma club and were not disappointed by a spirited game in the senior clash.
Coach Ian Radford led the Diggers from the front lines, sharing goal kicking honours with Wayne McKenzie as both cleared three majors apiece.
A highlight for the Diggers was the versatility of the team with a large number of individual goal scorers.
The Merimbula club was firing out of the flanks, the half-forward and the pockets to put goals on the board from a number of areas.
Brayden McDonald and Jonathon Winslett were also accurate off the boot, scoring two majors each as the Diggers settled in for a good game.
As predicted, the youthful Lions burst out of the gate to take the lead in the opening quarter by three points.
A renewed effort from the Diggers had the Merimbula club posting its best quarter of the contest, shutting down all offensive raids by the host team.
In contrast, the Diggers piled on five unanswered goals and a handy couple of behinds with accurate kicking providing a good boost to the scoreline.
At the main break the Diggers were well in front, leading 50-23.
The Lions rallied in the third and fourth quarter, but were unable to reel in the lead set by the Diggers as the Merimbula club matched scoring in the later stages.
Luke Talty was the main danger in Narooma’s front line, kicking three goals for the host team. while Rowan Hawkey and Daniel Smith put on a typically good performance.
In the earlier development grade Kris Collins and Sean Baggett were the best for the Diggers, posting two majors each in the 11-7-73 to 4-3-27 win.
The reserve team also enjoyed a good display across the board with eight individual goal kickers.
The development team will have a bye round this weekend, while the senior club faces off against the Eden Whalers.
Play is at Berrambool Oval on Saturday from 2.30pm.
