A 15-piece big band, the Festival All Stars, comprising some of the best musicians from Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and the local area, will be directed by experienced musician, composer and singer, Paul Dion.
The night will feature a three course dinner, cabaret show, dancing exhibition from the high energy Canberra Swing Katz who are making a welcome return to the jazz festival, as well plenty of opportunities to take to the floor and enjoy the music and dancing.
Organiser and musical director, Dion, said it was a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy some of the best the Jazz Festival has to offer, all in one night.
“There are some great acts lined up including award winning vocalist Marie Wilson and vivacious vocalist, Louiza Blomfield as well as local performer, Michael ‘Banjo’ Young.
“Marie’s name is well-known to many people and her easy listening style, reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald, is a delight. She has won numerous jazz vocalist awards.
“Louiza is an accomplished singer/actress, based in Canberra who singing style cuts across many genres,” Dion added.
She has won accolades for her roles in several musicals including The Witches of Eastwick and has appeared in leading roles in Guys and Dolls, Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Boy from Oz and Rent.
The Canberra-based trio of clarinetist Thomas Manley, Cameron Smith on trumpet, and Brian Abrahams on drums will feature in a special rendition of the Woody Herman classic, Golden Wedding.
“The idea is to start the jazz festival with a glamorous night of big band swing music, great cabaret and fine food. People can wear black tie or dress in jazz costume, such as roaring 20s outfits,” Dion said.
Get your friends together and make up a table of 10 or join another table for this wonderful evening. Cost is $65 per person for a glass of champagne, three course meal with great menu, and cabaret show. Contact Club Sapphire on 6495 1306 to book for this premier event.
