For the first time in the iconic directories’ history, the Yellow Pages and White Pages are supporting national animal welfare charity PetRescue, in a move that will see the Bega phone book cover being used to help re-home some of the region’s favourite four-legged friends.
The 2016 Bega Yellow Pages and White Pages cover features Wendy Cook from the Animal Welfare League Far South Coast, young animal advocate Noah Oke and lovable pooch Jub, the French mastiff cross Australian bulldog.
When residents open their book, they will be greeted with a simple guide to help them find their new best friend, as well as information on PetRescue and the vital work they do in Bega and across the country.
“The Yellow Pages and White Pages books remain one of the most powerful marketing tools for Australian businesses,” Sensis spokesperson Stephen Harvy said.
“Working with PetRescue to launch our 2016 Bega Yellow Pages and White Pages cobound book, is a fitting way to bring together local businesses and residents with their favourite and furry local friends – pets.
“We are only too happy to lend a hand to PetRescue and provide them with the heightened awareness that our significant reach provides.”
Ms Cook, local animal lover and AWLFSC welfare officer, works tirelessly to care for animals in need.
“The Far South Coast branch cares for animals that have been abandoned, neglected or surrendered by their owners,” she said.
“We mostly care for local cats and dogs, but sometimes look after ducks, horses and pigs.
“Once in our care, our dedicated team of volunteers work hard to provide the love and affection these animals so desperately need,” Ms Cook said.
“We rely solely on generous donations from members of the community, without their support we wouldn’t be able to keep our doors open.
“To raise additional funds we also sell our ‘Second Chance’ calendars, which feature some of our animals who have found new, loving forever homes in the previous year.
“We also receive wonderful support from our local vets who provide the necessary veterinary care for each animal.”
The Animal Welfare League Far South Coast has been in operation within the Bega Valley Shire area for over 15 years and has saved thousands of pets, just like Jub, during this time.
