Sub-branch member Tony Toussaint said work was supposed to be completed in time for the Anzac Day services.
“They’ve got part of the road to seal and there’s supposed to be paving to be finished,” he said pointing to the area close to the flag pole.
Despite the road concerns, services to honour the district’s service men and women will go ahead as planned on Monday, April 25.
A dawn service will take place at 6am at the Beach St memorial, with Meirmbula RSL sub-branch members asked to muster at 5.40am.
Beach St will be closed between Alice St and Main St from 5.30-7am.
In Pambula, an Anzac Day march will leave from in front of the supermarket on Quondola St at 8.40am to the memorial for a service and wreath laying.
Quondola St will be closed between Toalla St and Bullara St from 8.30-10.15am. Highway traffic will be diverted to Merimbola St.
Merimbula will also conduct a daytime service with a march along Beach St at 10.40 for a service and wreath laying at 11am.
Beach St will be closed between Alice St and Main St from 10.30am to noon. There will be slight traffic disruption in Main and Market St for the march for approximately 15 minutes.
Wyndham will be holding its Anzac Day service 2.30pm at the Wyndham Memorial and afternoon tea will follow in the nearby Uniting Church. Several local aged care homes will also have special services on the day.
Navy flyover
Last year’s jaw-dropping Anzac Day flyover of a C130 Hercules transport plane proved highly popular, with many on the Far South Coast calling for the same visit each year.
They may not have the roar of a C130 at low altitude, but the local Nashos have confirmed a pair of Navy Bell 429 helicopters, based at HMAS Albatross, will be making the journey across many local Anzac Day services.
They are scheduled in Merimbula at 11.18am flying over the memorial from east to west.
