It might come as a shock to Don Kellond to know that the Bega Valley Shire Residents & Ratepayers Association (BVSRRA) would be delighted if Wesfarmers was successful in its bid to open a Bunnings outlet in the shire, but not at the expense of Tura Beach residents & the legitimate planning processes that allegedly exist to protect the community’s best interests.

If Don believes that the BVSRRA’s views are “skewed” because it supports the requirements of the Bega Valley Shire LEP, the NSW Department of Planning Policy for Tura Beach, Bega Valley Shire Council’s own town hierarchy & commercial strategy, the South Coast Regional Strategy, the strong opposition of Council’s own planning staff to the original rezoning proposal & the views of half the Council, it is happy to agree with him.
As for Don’s suggestion that “conflicting interests” might somehow deny the shire the benefit of a Bunnings outlet, the BVSRRA can only suggest that he publicly explain the basis of his claim or simply cease peddling malicious gossip.
For the record, the BVSRRA stands by its position that Council’s primary duty is to stand-up for the best interests of our community, by respecting & supporting the comprehensive planning processes in-place to that end, rather than promoting commercial interests that may be inimical to the interests of our community.
