BIG DECISION: Bay Tigers Juniors coach and committee member Justin Taylor discusses the move to Group 16 with club president John Green.

A new contender will the take the field for the upcoming Group 16 minor rugby league season.

Following a thorough consultation process, the Bay Tigers Juniors have been granted a loan transfer to return to the league it left a dozen years ago for greener pastures.

Bay Tigers Juniors president John Green said Group 16 club had no objections to the Tigers making the move and that it was the right choice for the club’s short-term future.

Playing at the same venue every week is going to bring about a massive difference.

“As a club we are all excited about the move that’s for sure,” Green said.

About three weeks ago, the Tigers’ committee looked at its registration numbers and posed the question of why children might not be playing the sport to players’ parents.

Group Seven’s schedule was the biggest issue as players were spread across different venues, rather than at one location like Group 16, making travel harder on parents and siblings.

The Tigers’ committee took its due diligence and after Group Seven turned down its request for schedule changes the committee talked to Group 16.

The Tigers were provided with Group 16’s nominations to see how many games the children could play.

“As a committee we were happy with what Group 16 was going to supply us as a club,” Green said.

“Group 16 has a home and away series where each player can play at the same ground. It seemed a logical decision for us to try and apply for the transfer.

“Playing at the same venue every week is going to bring about a massive difference.”

The juniors first club training night starts at 4.30pm on Tuesday at Mackay Park.

All ages are invited to attend as they can meet their 2016 coaches. Registrations will be taken at the ground or can be completed at www.bayjuniortigers.sportingpulse.net.
