The day included many free activities for the kids, including a slip-n-slide, NRL ball games, a jumping castle and various entertaining races involving sacks and eggs, and Twofold Aboriginal Corporation event coordinator Lisa Emmerson was delighted by the festive vibe and community participation.
“It’s great to see the kids having such a good time,” Ms Emmerson said.
Twofold Aboriginal Corporation program coordinator Aileen Blackburn said that both Koori and non-Koori alike came together for the day.
“It was all the community, which was terrific,” Ms Blackburn said.
“It’s a relaxing day for parents and grandparents and the kids are having a ball.”
Indeed they were, with around 30 youngsters vying for scores in the NRL ball games, and getting rosy faced during intensely competitive sack and egg ‘n’ spoon races.
Far South Coast NRL development officer Damian Kennedy was the trainer-on-duty for the ball games, and laughed that although his games were of interest it was another free activity that stole the thunder.
“You should have seen the kids on the slip-n-slide,” Mr Kennedy said.
“Give them plastic and a bit of water, and they’re all happy as Larry.”
Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council chairman BJ Cruse looked on in amusement, with many of his family milling around him or sitting relaxed in the shade enjoying the fine food and company.
"It’s a good turnout, and we’d all like to thank the community for their support and for bringing the kids out,” Mr Cruse said.
“Thanks also to everyone who donated goods for the program.”
Event coordinator Lisa Emmerson said the Family Fun Day is an annual event at Eden’s Jigamy Farm, and she looks forward to holding it again next summer.
