On Saturday, January 23, co-founders Christine Welsh and Peter Buggy celebrated their anniversary at the Nethercote Markets, which was where they received their first food donation from John Walker of Palarang Organic Meats.
Since then, Mr Walker has continued to be a big supporter of REAP and each month donates more than 50 kilograms of quality meat.
REAP Sapphire Coast collects quality excess food that is still safe to eat from over 50 food businesses and registered primary producers.
In 2015, REAP Sapphire Coast collected and distributed over 4,200 kilograms of good food free of charge to charities and not for profit organisations including Pearls Place and the Garden of Eden project.
On top of destributing food REAP Sapphire Coast also organised the Blanketing the Valley event during winter in which 1200 blankets were distributed to those in need in the Bega Valley. Blanketing the Valley was such a huge success that they plan to make it an annual event.
REAP Sapphire Coast is entirely self funded by volunteer contributions, local fundraising and charitable grants.
