Silky smooth, sassy, seductive, all describe jazz singer Ruby Page. An ultimate performer, she has surrounded herself with some of Melbourne's notable musicians such as Joe Ruberto with his magical keyboard skills and vocals and the brilliant Bob Venier on trumpet.
The trio will be very competently backed by our own local musicians, Steve Clark on double bass and Ken Vatcher on drums.
Add to this impressive line up the special vocal trio harmonies of Ruby, Joe and Bob and you have the classic standards of the Golden Era delivered in a variety of stylistic settings ranging from swing, bossa novas and latin jazz which will leave audiences with a not to be missed, memorable, listening experience.
Born in New Zealand, Ruby Page came from a musical family, and has sung for as long as she can remember. Since July 2000 Ruby has based herself permanently in Melbourne, where she performs with some of Australia's best jazz musicians.
With her warmth and captivating stage presence Ruby creates magic, and develops a special connection with her audience singing vibrant interpretations of some of the best loved jazz standards.
Joe Ruberto has been an entertainer since the age of 13 playing both piano and piano accordion. He has performed on television and in concerts throughout Australia and overseas.
Joe is regularly in demand as musical director for local and international acts and has accompanied Normie Rowe, The Drifters, Phyllis Diller, Ernie Sigley, and many others. He has also performed on the cruise ship “The World”. He can be seen frequently playing piano at Melbourne’s top venues such as Paris Cat Jazz Club and Bennett’s Lane Jazz Club.
Bob Venier is recognised as one of Australia’s leading trumpet players. He has been in constant demand as both a studio session musician and a jazz soloist for the last four decades. He began his career in Ballarat playing dixieland, mainstream and big band music with local bands before moving to Melbourne where he played with Smacka Fitzgibbon.
In the early 70’s he joined the ABC Orchestra playing percussion for two years and then brass for 10 years. During the 80’s and 90’s Bob was a regular musician on leading TV shows including The Don Lane Show, The Bert Newton Show and Young Talent Time.
The Club Sapphire bistro opens at 6pm and music will commence at 7.30pm. Cost is $15 for jazz club members and $20 for visitors. Bookings can be made with Aileen Walsh on 6495 9853.
