The Lions Club of Pambula-Merimbula marked the 50th anniversary of its formation with a celebration dinner at Club Sapphire, Merimbula on Saturday, November 14. This followed a very successful Community Fun Day on Sunday, November 8 at Pambula Recreation Ground.

The MCs for the night, Lions Darryl Hay and Alanah Tesoriero, marked the establishment of Lions Clubs International in 1917 and the forming of the Lions Club of Pambula in 1965 and other historic milestones in the life of the club by appearing in costumes of the times.
The winner of the Lifetime Community Service Award, John Liston, accepted the plaque and a cheque for $500 which he is donating to the Jigamy Youth Project.
An award was also presented to Bob Beasley, who is a life member of Pambula-Merimbula Lions Club. Although Bob was not a charter member of the club, he has been a member for 49 years and five months.
Two young local artists, Emily Claxton and Hayden Ferenz, provided great entertainment performing some of their own compositions.
The night concluded with the president of the Lions Club of Pambula-Merimbula, Ric Vanderbom, congratulating John Liston and thanking all those who had worked so hard to make the 50th anniversary celebrations come about and to all those who had attended the celebration dinner.
Guests on the night included the Bega Valley Shire Council mayor, Michael Britten, who gave the toast to Lions International and was accompanied by his wife, Robyn.
Other guests included Lions first vice district governor, Sharon Bishop and husband Tim, district global membership co-ordinator, Gary Parker and his wife Lois, representatives of the Merimbula and Pambula Rotary Clubs, the Pambula-Merimbula CWA, the Pambula and District Hospital Auxiliary, past presidents, past and present Lions ladies and former members of the Pambula-Merimbula Lions Club.
Lions from the Bega, Braidwood, Wodonga, Lakes Entrance and Jindabyne Lions Clubs and representatives of the Eden Lionesses Club also made the journey to join fellow Lions in Merimbula and help with the celebrations.
Veronica Northcott, who has judged in the Lions Youth of the Year Quest for over 20 years and her husband Ken also attended as well as friends of Lions and club sponsors.
The room at Club Sapphire was decked out with Lions flags and regalia along many of the walls while information about the local Lions was projected onto other areas.
The night was classed as a great success with around 130 people attending.
