Good results from both plastics and hard body lures showed the fish are now really on the chew, according to Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club members.
Flathead, both sand and tiger, are also biting well along the 22-fathom line and especially off Tura Headland. For flathead virtually anything goes for bait.
Salmon are about but remain patchy on the local beaches and headlands. Luderick, salmon and the occasional trevally can be caught from the wharf at Merimbula and good size squid are prevalent just on dark. Good squid have also been landed off the rocks at Tura headland.
As noted last week numerous pods of whales offshore continue their exodus southwards to Antarctica and are a great sight from the headlands and when outside fishing.
The estuaries are coming to life with some fine bream, whiting, trevally and dusky flathead reported from Pambula and Merimbula Lakes and the Bega River at Mogareeka.
Well up river good size silver perch are now responding to small hard-bodied lures.
