Pambula St Gardens Update
Eighty new lavender plants have been planted in the last few weeks at a cost of $800, I’ve gone for the French this time as I think they are a bit hardier than what was there.

The roundabout has been planted out with 40 punnets, that is 240 seedlings of red petunias, these were very generously donated by Mitre 10 Pambula. Another very generous donation was from the now demised Pambula Area Progress and Planning Association of $500.
That $500 will go a long way for new plants.

Merimbula RSL Board
Following the close of nominations on Monday October 5 it appears that RSL club members are faced with a a clear choice of leadership and direction.
All current board members have re-nominated - this is the team which sought to amalgamate with the bowling club leading to the eventual closure of the RSL club.
Over their two-year term, at least $100,000 of members' funds were outlaid on the failed amalgamation. More recently they have spent $250,000 in expanding the outdoor smoking/gaming area at the expense of the non-smoking indoor area.
With five new nominations there is a clear choice between the old and the new.
The four current sub branch club board members have two new challengers in Tony Toussaint and me.
The three non-service positions on the board have three new challengers in the form of retired long-serving club employee Robert "Bob" Coulson, local business manager Peta Bentley and club identity Gerd Schaffer.
Members have three options.
If they think the current board has served them well, then they should re-elect the old board.
If members believe major change is needed they should elect Tony Toussaint, Bob, Peta, Gerd and myself.
If some current board members are seen as necessary, then a combination of the first two options should be considered.
Members will not be surprised to hear that I favour major change. The current board seems to have exhausted its initiative and new vision and leadership is needed.
Importantly we need a large number of members attend and vote at the AGM at 8pm on Wednesday October 28. Make your vote count.

Greens values queried
Having read the front page article of the Magnet (October 8), there were no surprises that the Greens have called for an end to logging in native forests. They do that every time they open their mouth about native forests.
“Saving” native forests is the big vote winner in inner city electorates where those living in suburb after suburb that once grew native forests and grassland have the delusion that they lead ecologically sustainable lives and harvesting and regeneration of a small portion of the remaining forest is a sin against mother earth.
Lee Rhiannon is a leading light in the party that presents itself as all things to all people. They are the party that supposedly care for everybody, except for those of us who work in the forest industries.
While the Greens have ridden to popularity on the back of save the native forests campaigns and a belief in grassroots democracy, is this what the Greens really stand for? What lies behind this façade?
Aside from taking the name of a strong minded other world woman from Welsh mythology, what values does Lee Rhiannon actually hold? Does she hold similar beliefs and values to those her fellow party members above seem to support? Is the Green Party actually part of the Socialist Alliance?
