This month brings the CWA’s Annual General Meeting, where the new office bearers will be elected for the coming year.
Pambula-Merimbula CWA branch president Barbara Leech said the end of the year and the organisation’s annual meeting is a time when the CWA can embrace new ideas.
“With this in mind Members please give some thought about taking on a position this year as it is really great to be involved in this wonderful organisation,” Ms Leech said.
It will not be too late if you would like to add your nomination for a position on the day.
The Far South Coast Group President Mary Williams will be chairing the meeting.
This will be a chance for all members and any friends who would like to become members, to have a chat with Mary.
All are welcome to stay for the meeting and to join the group for lunch afterwards at Oaklands.
At the September meeting Wendy Cugley and Mary Coyle gave the branch a talk on boronia, the flora studied this year.
Mary grew boronia commercially in the 1990's and they were sold as cut flowers to local florists and also to Japanese markets.
Members learned that boronia is an evergreen, Australian native plant with cup-like flowers varying in colour from all yellow to dark brown with yellow inside.
The flowers appear in spring, and it’s interesting to note that although this plant is prized for its magnificent perfume, a significant number of people cannot smell it at all.
Mary also pointed out that there is a species exclusive to Mt Imlay.
This boronia flower is pink and white and has five petals instead of the usual four petals.
