Kirsty and Ben were sponsored by Lion Alanah Tesoriero.
Club members welcomed these two young people acknowledging they will be a valuable asset in securing its future.
Mrs Wilton, who was accompanied by her husband, Lion Stan, went on to express her admiration for work the club does in the community.
She was particularly impressed with Lions projects providing more accessible approaches to Middle Beach and across Berrambool Creek, along with the wonderful public facilities provided by, and maintained by Lions, at Lions Park in Pambula.
Youth projects also came in for her commendation.
Each year the club sponsors entrants in Youth of the Year which attracts up to 3,000 entrants from all over Australia.
This programme encourages young people in their senior high school years to participate, showcasing leadership and the qualities required to take an active and constructive role in the community.
Ultimately an outstanding young person is selected to travel overseas and act as a youth ambassador in a country of their choosing.
In 2013 Pambula Merimbula club’s entrant, Molly Campbell, a student from Lumen Christi, was selected for her high level of academic, leadership, sporting, public speaking and citizenship achievements – she chose India as her travel destination.
The club also encourages young students to enter the Peace Poster competition.
This year the theme is ‘Share Peace’ and entries are soon to be judged and there is an opportunity offered by the club for two senior high school students to undertake an Outward Bound course.
But perhaps the club’s greatest achievement is this year, in November, to be celebrating 50 years of community service, which, as District Governor Sally remarked, is something of which to be very proud.
