Mr Briggs was the winner of the best contract home from $750,000 to $1million at the Master Builders Association’s (MBA) Excellence in Regional Building Awards showcase earlier this year.
The stunning Millingandi home, which was designed by Strine Design architect Eric Butt, overlooks Pambula Lake and has been praised for its modern minimalistic design and its simplicity.
But Mr Briggs said it was anything but simple to build.
“It took about 10 months to build and it was very challenging,” he said.
“There is polished flooring throughout which is difficult to get right because it’s the first thing you put down but it is also the finished product so it has to be perfect.”
Owners of the house, Frances and Peter Dowling, wanted a low-maintenance home which was achieved through the use of robust materials such as galvanised steel, concrete, weathered timber, glass and no external paint.
From the front the house looks a bit like a large industrial shed but from the back the wonder of the house really shines with a huge central verandah with breathtaking views.
After more than 15 years as a licenced builder Mr Briggs said he is very proud of this build.
“It’s just a quality home, it was difficult to build but it really is an incredible house.”
