Founded in 2010 by violinists Lisa Stewart and Myee Clohessy, violinist Stefan Duwe and cellist Anna Martin-Scase, the Acacia String Quartet has quickly won great respect for their versatile and inventive programs, which often couple established repertoire with the unorthodox.
Their program for this concert reflects this style.
The quartet will be performing an entertaining program that includes Gershwin’s Lullaby, Schulhoff’s String Quartet No. 1 and Fritz Kreisler’s String Quartet in A Minor.
One of the highlights of the concert will be their amazing rendition of Elena Kats-Chernin’s Charleston Noir.
In 2013, Acacia was nominated for both an ARIA award and an APRA-AMCOS Art Music Award.
Their performances feature regularly on ABC Classic FM, Fine Music 102.5 and Qantas In-flight entertainment.
In just four years, the group has released many albums including an ARIA-nominated recording of songs with soprano Jane Sheldon and the complete string quartets of Elena Kats-Chernin.
They have also collaborated with many popular composers and quartets including singer-songwriter Katie Noonan, saxophonists Michael Duke and Nick Russoniello, flautist Jane Rutter and ARIA-award winning pianist and composer Sally Whitwell.
All four musicians individually have had outstanding success including prizes at international competitions in their musical education, training and performance – both within Australia and overseas.
For example, when the Vienna Philharmonic made the historic decision to accept women, violinist Lisa Stewart was one of the first women invited by them to apply.
The Acacia String Quartet will perform on Sunday, September 27 from 2.30pm at the Wolumla Hall.
Tickets for each concert can be purchased from: Booktique in Merimbula, Magpie Music in Bega, Eden Music Store and at the door.
The cost is $20 for members, $23 concession, $28 non-members and children are free.
Afternoon tea will be provided.
