IT seems Wagonga Inlet and the other estuaries have come on strong just in time for the school holidays.
With Darren “Dash” Bowater on holidays from the Ocean Hut and his usual fishing report, it’s fallen to pick up the slack line.
A highlight over the weekend for one local angler Ian “Hoot” Cowie was his first ever jewfish, which he caught in the shallows of Wagonga.
“I've chased these fish for so long I began to believe they didn't exist but today I finally jagged one - on 4lb leader in 2.5m of water!”
He did well maintaining composure during the fight and netting it solo.
Speaking of Dash he has been out enjoying the holidays fishing with his son and fishing mate Mark “Hippie” Carradus.
Monday was a perfect day for fishing, and a pretty good way to start the school holidays.
They got 16 fish in total including eight flathead, three frogs over 50cm and one cracking 80cm croc, which was caught only meters from where an estimated 80cm was lost boat side a week ago.
The ironic thing today was the lure popped out before the fish was in the net. But the big girl was happy to come in for a couple of photos before returning home.
Just a few days earlier, the fish on Wagonga came on much later and perseverance payed off as the plan came together in the second half of the day.
They got a dozen or more of flathead up to 64cm, three bream and a had short-lived red hot salmon session.
Graham from Moruya Tackleworld had also been out fishing reporting nice flathead, bream, perch and trevally caught throughout the estuaries this week.
He caught and released an extremely nice 45cm perch in the Tuross system on a Strada Badger and he reckons the fish seem to be biting better when the tide turns and heads in.
Out on the big blue ocean, the reefs continue to deliver snapper and morwong, both to the north off Tuross and all the way down to Goalen Head south of Bermagui.
Sand and tiger flathead can be found in good patches on the flat grounds off Narooma and Bermagui.
Graham from Moruya also reported good size snapper and nannygai on the reefs between the 45-65m mark, with the snapper jumping on snapper snatchers, size 5/0 teamed with a touch of tuna.
He notes the flatties are also on the chew on the sand patches using both bait and a Squidgie 100mm Silver Fox teamed up on a paternoster rig.
On the rocks and beaches, he says there are good salmon, tailor, drummer and luderick are still being caught in good numbers off both Moruya breakwater and surrounding beaches and headlands.
Further out wide, there has been some tuna action over the past week, including big hauls of albacore and the odd yellowfin.
Bowlo fishing club president Dave Clark reported seeing schools of tuna, some appearing larger than striped tuna, breaking the surface in close off Montague Island.
Scotty at Bermi Bait & Tackle reported a couple of yellowfin to 40kg landed on over the 1000fthm line, a few albacore and a couple of nice dolphinfish.
The sea-surface temps remained in our favour from here to Sydney but the weather though is ordinary offshore for most of this week.
Crusty and decky Dylan on the weekend took the fishbermi boat for a run and after catching some good tigers on the 12-Mile headed out to chased a yellowfin and managed one, and saw a few others.

Then Ian and Linda Smith proceeded with the top 50 winners of the year, which were spread out among quite a few members then the section winners were announced Mick Cavic was crowned the freshwater champion for 2015.
