MERIMBULA unleashed a flurry of goals in the final stages to outdo the Tathra Sea Eagles at Berrambool on Saturday.
The Sea Eagles had led 58-52 at the start of the final quarter, but the home side secured all the points from there.
A mark deep in Tathra territory looked ominous, but the kick faded wide and put the home side five behind at 58-54.
However, another kick from range soon after found the big posts and the Diggers took the lead for the first time since the opening quarter 59-58.
From there it was a frenzy of goal-kicking attacks from the Diggers, who have reigned as a top two team all season.
The final score favoured the home side 84-55.
It was a heavily physical contest with tempers reaching breaking points in some heated tackles.
However, for spectators, it was a brilliantly level match as well, with the two sides never more than 20 points apart until the dying minutes.
The match will see the Merimbula Diggers afvance to play the Pambula Panthers in the grand final on Saturday, September 12 at the Pambula Sporting Complex.
The win was also a double boon for the club with Wayne Mckenzie playing his 200th game for the Merimbula club.
The earlier development grade match saw Pambula advance to the grand final comfortably with a 60-point win over Bermagui.
The Panthers will face the strong Eden Whalers outfit in the grand final.
