The occasion was celebrated with the cutting of a cake by the founding members and the recognition of four members as Paul Harris fellows. All four had been president of the club and had not received recognition for their commitment to the ideals of Rotary “Service Above Self” and The Rotary Foundation to date.
They were all surprised and the award to Jill Goodchild, Janet Brandon, Rex Koerbin and David Wriedt was conferred by president Lee Beatty.
In 25 years, Pambula Rotary has been involved in many projects; the very first was a bike path from Pambula to the beach. Funded by the newly formed Rotary Club, it was a trailblazer in the end as the Bega Shire Council took up the idea and created bike paths throughout the shire, Rotary said, adding that the biggest project so far was the reconstruction of the Pambula Pool which was a great success and is serving locals well.
The future of the Rotary Club looks good and with 53 members it is a dynamic, happy and focused club, serving the community. The club’s next big project is to spearhead the community fundraising drive to provide a carers accommodation at the South East Regional Hospital. The evening concluded with lots of laughter and entertainment from a bush poet.
