In support of their efforts and to help with their expenses the Eden Area Gymnastics will be holding a performance night in Pambula (38 Toalla Street) on Friday, September 4 at 6pm and everyone is urged to come along.
There will be 33 gymnasts and acrobats from the club competing in Orange in early October and the performance night will be a chance for them to perform their routines before the big competition.
For nine-year-old Coco Houston, a student at Merimbula Public School, it’s her first time competing at this level but having performed in musical theatre and with Irish dancers, she is not nervous about public performance.
Coco is part of an acrobatic team which includes Charlotte Purcell, a Year 6 student at Merimbula Public School and Amelie Shannon, Year 7 student at the Sapphire Coast Anglican College.
Coco said: “For our two routines we decided on the music ourselves. One of the songs is the theme song from ‘Monster’s Inc’ and the other one is the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme. The pose called ‘Titanic’ is our favourite one, to show what we can do together.”
Amelie went to Orange last year for rhythmic gymnastics and received two silver medals and one gold, but she admitted that the thing that makes you the most nervous is the judges, and performing in front of a big crowd.
But as Charlotte said: “It will be good to do the display performance at the gym on September 4 to show local people what we have learnt, and what we are taking to Orange.”
Samantha Tondering and Lumen Christi student, is a star gymnast at the club, having competed at state and national levels with Pippi Keogh, of Pambula, and now assists with coaching. Samantha advised younger gymnasts to just have fun.
Tickets for the performance night will be: $5 or $15 for a family of four, $20 for a family of more than four. Contact Eden Area Gymnastics club manager Zoe Stewart on:
