The event was scheduled for October, but will not be held due to the loss of committee members, who had to leave due to their own, or their family’s, cancer journey.
After holding several meetings to secure new committee members, organisers have had no response from the public and time constrictions are now the issue.
Therefore it has been decided the event will not be held in 2015.
However, if an organising committee can be re-formed early in the New Year, there is hope the event will run in October 2016.
“The committee would like to thank all the sponsors who have supported us over the years, and look forward to their support in the future,” committee chairman Greg Whitby said.
The remaining committee members, together with the Cancer Council representative, will look to having well-publicised meetings in the near future to recruit new faces.
Public interest will then decide the future of Bega Valley Relay for Life.
“We are communicating with the Cancer Council at present to see what we may be able to change or add to the event to make it more appealing to the community,” Mr Whitby said.
“There will be more information regarding this shortly.
“The committee wishes to apologise to cancer sufferers and carers, also the teams, who were looking forward to the next event.”
Any teams that may have already raised money can still bank this money by contacting the Cancer Council community engagement coordinator Grant Plecas on 0488 208 208 for deposit slips.
