When logic sleeps monsters are born. Sure, I’ve rephrased Francisco Goya’s observations of Spanish politics in the 1700s. But it struck me that his simple logic epitomises the short history of our current Liberal–National Coalition government and its leadership, and to a slightly lesser extent the preceding Labor government.

Almost every day these masters of stupidity – in the Coalition’s case - astound us with their inability to make sound, rational decisions. It’s almost as if they (the Liberal–National Coalition) have been stripped of the basic human powers of mental analysis. Barely a week goes by when we are not confronted with a litany of their poor judgement calls and a distinct lack of visionary policy.
Never in my 60 plus years have I seen a federal government (with one or two ministerial exceptions) so resemble a collective of analytically bereft simpletons.
The whole Liberal show is like watching a conversation between George W Bush and Donald Trump. On every front and spectrum of policy –whether it’s fiscal, the environment, education, age pensions, health care, first Australians, energy or lunatic Knighthoods, to name but a few – they have proved to be totally and utterly inept.
The sad thing is that Labor has almost morphed into a Liberal clone and the Greens, although displaying some environmental and social morals, seem to think there are fairies at the bottom of their garden.
Right wing or left, our politicians seem to fly in ever decreasing circles of flawed logic. They remind me of a man lost in the desert, so unaware of the complex nature of the environment that he walks in circles – forever doomed by his inability to read the land.
The truth of the matter is that if no iconoclast leader materialises from at least one of our major political parties or new ethical political parties are forged, then the paradise of Australia will eventually be lost and monsters born.
