At Nethercote seasonal market on Saturday, July 25, growers promise a ton of citrus as well as morning fresh broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes and the sweetest delicacy of them all, yakon. The crisp ground apple is as delicious in a salad or juice as it is sliced and roasted. Whack it in the oven along with a cut of melt-in–the-mouth organic beef or lamb from the organic butcher, John Walker of Palarang Meats or even better, a selection of sausages. Try his pies, if you haven’t already. They’re a stunning market day treat.
You’ll be hard pushed to find as many delicacies available under the one roof, Rocky Hall wine, Brunch Buggy Muesli, Tilba cheese, Wild Rye bread, local honey, hazelnuts and eggs, delicious home baking, pickles and jams.
Arrive in time to buy the pick of the crop and mid-morning join the throng in our kitchen to see Amanda Stroud whip up a spanakopita from produce fresh from her farm.
Then pick up a tray of the best coffee and cake on offer locally, park yourself somewhere cosy and listen to the band. Easy Street is the sound of the market.
The market opens from 8am until 12 noon on Saturday, July 25, and is at the Nethercote Hall on the corner of Nethercote Road and Back Creek Road.
