Five local dragon boaters who will be representing Australia in the World Championships in Canada in August this year were presented with a cheque for $2000 to help with their expenses.

Charles Helmore, Lizzie Shaw, Lynne Richardson and Kerri Freeman were all selected to represent Australia in the Senior C category while Chris Cheung will represent Australia in the premier division. Selections for the Auroras, as the Australian team is known, was conducted after rigorous physical testing.
As part of the Auroras, the dragon boaters must pay for their own travel, accommodation, uniforms and training at special Auroras camps so the money was raised by the two local dragon boat clubs to help with these expenses.
