Frosty conditions were braved as 19 students from Lumen Christi took on the sleep-out challenge to raise money for people who are homeless. The students from years 7-12 had a glimpse of life for those without safe, comfortable shelter.

During a presentation by members of the Social Justice Advocates of the Sapphire Coast, John Liston and Mick Brosnan, they were told that on average 100 people in the Bega Valley would be homeless each night. This includes those who sleep in the elements, in cars or couch surf from place to place.
Named after St Francis of Assisi, the sleep-out aims to provide an opportunity for Lumen students to reach out to those who are suffering, lonely and often forgotten by society.
St Francis, the patron saint of the Bobberrer House, rejected late night partying and materialistic greed after his own conversion experience.
The national evangelisation team attended the sleep-out after running retreat days for students in Years 8, 9 and 10. Their enthusiasm and commitment to spreading God’s love contributed to making this a memorable experience, the school said.
The money raised will be donated to Ricky’s Place in Bega as well as going towards an immersion trip to the Philippines in 2016 where some Year 11 students will have further opportunities to promote social justice.
