Convict bonnets were made by many Merimbula Evening VIEW Club members and local residents, to pay tribute to the 25,566 convict women who were transported to Australia between 1788 and 1853. Last week club members heard from guest speaker, Dr Christina Henri, about the 'Roses from the Heart' tribute to convict women and many children who were transported to Australia.

Merimbula Evening VIEW Club members and many guests enjoyed Dr Henri’s journey of establishing 'Roses from the Heart' in 2013.
People from all over the world have contributed bonnets in memory of all the convict women and their babies, and at present Dr Henri has received 24,778, which includes those bonnets made locally.
Dr Henri had a very busy schedule while visiting Merimbula courtesy of Merimbula Evening VIEW Club, and Regional Express visiting Lumen Christi Catholic College, Merimbula and Pambula Public Schools and had afternoon tea with members of the Old School Museum in Merimbula.
If anyone wishes to honour their convict ancestors, visit the 'Roses from the Heart' website or contact Susan Stephenson on 64957770.
