Topping the bill is Aussie showbiz legend, the singer and actor Frankie J Holden.
With performing shared between the Concert Band, conducted by Dave Willis, and the Big Band, led by his twin brother Geoff, the program is titled ‘From Classics to Jazz’. On offer is a rich menu ranging from the classic works of Tchaikovsky and Holst to music from shows and movies. The finale of the Classics program introduces tenor Paul Dion to sing Luciano Pavarotti’s greatest hit ‘Nessun Dorma’.
Sharing the Big Band vocalist chair with Frankie J. Holden are Sonia Markvan, vocalist for many years with Melbourne’s famous Tramways Big Band, and Liam McManus, a 16-year-old student from Lumen Christi Catholic College, who despite his tender years sings in a style reminiscent of Robbie Williams and Michael Buble. Identical twins Dave and Geoff Willis, award winning performers in their own right, will add in a duet.
The Sapphire Coast Concert Band is a community group which performs at many local events and ceremonies, including the Anzac day services, the Eden Whale Festival, and Christmas Carols in Merimbula and Eden. Players currently range in age from 12 to 80. All local instrumentalists and would-be players are welcomed and given guidance and encouragement when necessary.
Frankie J. Holden has a special connection with the SCCB: he is brother-in-law of Kelly Pettigrove, who together with Bruce McGill was original founder of the band in 2002.
The concerts are at Club Sapphire at 7.30pm on Saturday, May 30 and 2pm on Sunday, May 31. Tickets are the one price of $15.
