Wendy Lucas, of Merimbula is devastated after an antique rocking horse, destined for her first grandchild was stolen from her garage recently.
Mrs Lucas’ grandfather arranged for a Mr Ritchie who lived in Harbourmaster House, Tathra to build the swing rocking horse for her, 57 years ago.
The rocking horse has been in Mrs Lucas’ Ocean View Avenue garage for the last few years but there were plans to get the family heirloom restored.
“My daughter has just had the first grandchild and the first great grandchild for mum and we discussed about getting it done up for the baby,” Mrs Lucas said.
After going to visit her daughter in late July she returned home to discover the rocking horse was gone.
“It was right at the back of the garage and covered with a sheet. It’s sickening to think someone would take it,” she said.
Nothing else was taken from the garage. After placing an advertisement in the News Weekly on August 13, Mrs Lucas received a phone call from a woman who said she thought she had seen it on the back of a ute in Pambula.
Mrs Lucas’ neighbour also thought she saw it sitting outside the house at one stage.
The family is very upset by the loss of the rocking horse which held so many memories for them and which they had hoped to pass on to the first grandchild just as Mrs Lucas herself had been given the horse by her grandparents when she was their first grandchild.
If anyone has any information or has seen the swing rocking horse please contact Wendy Lucas on 6495 3230 or 0402 225 935 or alternatively contact the News Weekly on 6495 3333.
