The challenge is a way of saying thank you to the staff and volunteers of essential emergency services with a fun day out on the Pambula-Merimbula golf course.
The golf day is open to workers, and volunteers, of the police force, ambulance, SES, the Rural Fire Service, Fire Brigrade and Marine Rescue.
Organiser, and police volunteer, Peter Weire said the day would be a way of thanking members of the services, and raise funds for a good cause at the same time.
“It will be a pretty casual event, there will be a drinks cart and banners around the course.” Weire said.
“It will be an annual event to say thank you to all the services.”
The cost to entrants is $20, which will include a round on the course and a lunch.
“We really want to thank the people who’ve given us the prizes.
“The trophy and engraving has been donated by Merimbula Jewellers.
Each service will be pitted against one another by competing in an individual stableford.
“Those who work for more than one service can pick which one they would like to represent.”
The trophy, and bragging rights, will be held by the winning service for 12 months until the next event
“If the coppers win it, the ambulance officers will have to hide,” he said with a laugh.
“It’s really going to be an exciting challenge, these guys will enjoy themselves.”
So far entry forms have been sent as far north as Batemans Bay, while a number of entries are also coming in from Eden, but service people from all over are welcome to take part.
Players will also have the opportunity to enter two $20 draws for two major prizes.
“The first is a $750 Harvey Norman voucher, and the other is a $600 Summerland Travel voucher,” Weire said.
“There will only be one winner in each draw and they will walk away with the $750 and $600.”
$500 has been supplied to each major prize by the Police Association and the Police Bank respectively.
“The money raised from that is going to the new Bega District Hospital for the children’s ward to buy toys.
“And we will do that every year,” he said.
There will also be prizes for the straightest drive, best card and nearest the pins.
Accommodation packages and meal vouchers have been provided by Robin’s Nest, Zanzibar Cafe, The Wharf Restaurant, Merimbula Beach Holiday Park and a fishing trip for two courtesy of Fishpen Charters.
The event will run at the Pambula-Merimbula Golf Club on August 29 with a shotgun start between 9.30 and 10am.
Entries close on August 20.
Entry forms have been supplied to all service offices around the region.
To enter just fax your entry form with name and contact number (and your GA handicap if you know it) to the Merimbula Police Station on 6495 3700.
