Sapphire Support Services will be utilising Berrambool three days a week to begin with on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9.30am – 3.30pm from Wednesday, July 16.
There will be a variety of activities on offer for adults with a disabilty or for anyone requiring some support. The focus will be on health and wellbeing and getting involved in our local community, with a variety of options to try some sports, small group fitness, volunteering, cooking and lifestyle skills. People will have the option to be involved for the whole day or just the activities that interest them.
Michaela Pascolutti, of Sapphire Support Services said that Berrambool is a great venue with a kitchen, large indoor space, fantastic outdoor space and accessible ammenities.
“Over the last few months the committee has spent tens of thousands of dollars upgrading the facilities which has included a new accessible toilet/bathroom, an access ramp and some general maintenance and upgrades. It is a great facility that will be put to great use,” Michaela said.
Sapphire Support services was started by Michaela Pascolutti and Helen Spiropolous, of Tura Beach two years ago as Dial a Carer to help fill some of the gaps in local community services. They have 11 support workers who assist them in providing a range of services including respite care, in home support, community access, life skills and supported holidays and getways. They also organise an annual “Carers Night off” a free night out for carers sponsored by local services and businesses and provide information and education to the community about inclusive practices. This Septemeber Michaela will be speaking at the International Short Break Conference in Germany about inclusive practices.
Anyone interested in finding out what will be available at Berrambool is welcome to attend an open afternoon on Friday, July 18, 12.30-3pm. There will be a free group singing workshop from 1-2pm with Mandy Siegal and nibbles and drinks from 2pm.
