At about 8.30am on Monday, June 9 police observed a vehicle driving onto the wrong side of the road in Market Street, Merimbula.
The officers conducted a traffic stop with the intention of issuing an infringement notice, but after conducting checks, discovered that the driver, a 37-year-old male from the Czech Republic, was wanted for serious and violent offences in Sydney from the previous evening.
He was arrested and conveyed to Merimbula Police Station, before being transferred to Bega Police Station where he was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent to deprive liberty, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possess or use of a prohibited weapon without permit, take/detain person to obtain advantage, common assault, aggravated sexual assault and stalk/intimidation. The man faced court in Bega on June 10 and was refused bail. He was remanded in custody and transferred to Sydney, where he will face court at the Downing Centre on Tuesday, July 22.
