Commander of Marine Rescue Merimbula, Bill Blakeman is urging members of the public and visitors alike to show their support for the unit’s valuable work by either making a donation or purchasing a sausage sandwich and a ticket in the raffle for a $200 gift card.
He added: “We are always looking for new members and anyone interested in joining, should take the opportunity to talk to our volunteers and register their interest. All training for boat crew and radio operators is provided free of charge and is nationally accredited.”
Sapphire Rescue III, commissioned in November 2010 is a 10metre Naiad rigid hull inflatable boat, powered by twin 250hp Yamaha outboards, with a top speed of over 40knots.
The vessel will be open for inspection between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday, June 7 at the public jetty.
At the entrance to the jetty, unit volunteers will also be manning a special Marine Rescue information trailer and providing local and visiting boaters with an opportunity to talk with experienced operators about all aspects of boating safety.
So far this year, Marine Rescue Merimbula has assisted ten vessels in trouble on local waters.
