Following its recent refurbishment, the Sapphire Aquatic Centre in Pambula is having an open day on Saturday 26 April from 9am – 2pm.
The centre spent the week having a significant facelift combined with a series of maintenance works while it was closed last week. The mural competition winner, Belinda Rosenbaum has now completed her painting on the back wall of the centre also.
The multipurpose pool was emptied, stripped back and repainted with three coats of chlorinated rubber. New safety signage has been installed, and three multipurpose sand filters have been repaired and new laterals and sand installed.
“New energy efficient lights have been installed in the pool hall reducing the centre’s carbon footprint and ensuring there is adequate visibility for our patrons as we head into the winter months,” aquatic facilities co-ordinator, Le Webb, said.
“Pumps which maintain the flow to all pools were also pulled apart and the seals and bearings replaced. The chlorine dosing system was fully serviced along with the full interior of the pool hall, and the amenities, child minding area and the foyer have also been repainted.
“It was necessary to close the pool because the work involved removing water from the multipurpose and toddler pools and shutting off all pumps.
“The new look in the centre is a great way to refresh the original atmosphere and create a new vibe in the complex.”
To celebrate the makeover a free entry open day will be held on Saturday, April 26 so the public can see what changes have been made over the past week.
There will be activities going throughout the day; children’s craft making, pool games, balloon craft, a jumping castle, the pool inflatable and also a hot dog stand.
Entry to SAC will be free during the hours of 9am until 2pm. Normal operating hours of 8.30am – 5pm still apply at the centre on Saturday and aqua aerobics will still run as scheduled at 8.30am.
