Performing Arts Festival rocks the Sapphire Coast

Sapphire Coast Learning Community (SCLC) students and teachers have been working hard to perfect performance items over recent weeks in preparation for their fourth annual performing arts festival. Bega High School, Eden Marine High School, Bemboka, Candelo, Eden, Pambula, Tathra and Towamba public school student groups performed a range of items on Tuesday, July 31. Items ranged from drumming pieces, a violin solo, choir and vocal group items, various styles of dance, and instrumental items to colourful circus themed dance and performance acts.

One of the features is the Combined Primary School Choir, where 120 students from across all of the night’s participating primary schools showcase collaboration and vocal skills by singing the opening item.

This year’s opening song was ‘Dare To Dream’ to celebrate the Olympics whilst further encouraging the students to have confidence in their abilities. Other combined acts include combined primary and high school vocal and band ensembles that were developed at the recent SCLC Music Camp held in Tathra.

“The Sapphire Coast Learning Community has gone from strength to strength since its launch in November 2008” said 2012 SCLC co-ordinator Michelle Hulme, also the principal of Merimbula Public School.

“Our learning community is so fortunate to have such talented and expert staff in all areas, who are dedicated to providing high quality learning experiences for our students. Not only does the SCLC have combined staff professional learning days, a music camp and a performing arts festival, we are also looking forward to holding a combined schools music excursion to Canberra and a combined schools art exhibition in the coming weeks.”
